Today, in the age of information and technology, media has become paramount in shaping narratives. Just like any other Gen-Z, I am very active on social media and tend to follow KOLs (key opinion leaders) in areas that interest me. My inspiration in the social media realm is Huda Kattan, American make-up artist and beauty blogger and owner of Huda Beauty.

Huda started Huda Beauty a decade ago with her sister. Her journey through the years has been motivational, especially that she grew to 54 million followers on Instagram today organically without paid advertisement. Today, her brand is worth over $250 million in annual sales and her net worth currently stands at $510 million.

Huda’s process on social media relies on validation from common people who use and test her products and then give their honest feedback. She also relies on giving expert advice and demonstrated the various ways in which make-up can be used to enhance beauty. I have taken a similar approach and ideated around this to add organic inputs from people – I went out to common people asking them on their fashion choices. This helped me build credibility and create content, like Huda’s, that is relatable and offers various viewpoints on fashion.



A key aspect of Huda’s social media page is identifying trends and leveraging on them to show new ways of styling. This is what I strive to do moving forward. Fashion and beauty are both subjective and yet there are trends that are sometimes global and sometimes hyper-localized. My approach moving forward is to shape the page based on trends among the Gen-Z audience, specifically in the UAE as majority of my following is from the UAE.

Huda Kattan and her brand have been my inspiration for many years. Today, she is one of the most followed beauty influencers in the world and I continue to draw inspiration from how she combines trends with common people to show relatability and accessibility to her brand and products.
