The correlation between choice of subject in university and professional career?
During my growing up years, I would observe umpteen people from within my extended family who would pursue a degree but end up in a career that had no relation to the degree. The idea of spending 3-4 years of one’s student life to end up in a totally new domain has always intrigued me.
The more important question here is whether the choice of pursuing a career outside the domain stems from lack of career opportunities or the need to identify a career that would probably pay better or more convenient. There is even a cultural context to explore, which is the influence of parents or other individuals on the decision made by students at a presumably impressionable age.
